2010 FALL FAMILY CAMP INSTRUCTIONS

From November 5-7, 2010

Pack 38 will conduct a family camp at Cheatham Annex from 4:00 PM, November 5, 2010 to 11:00 AM, November 7, 2010.  Objectives of the campout include (1) developing and reinforcing Cub Scout camping and nature skills, (2) conducting outdoor activities including but not limited to sports, (3) providing opportunities to strengthen family ties, and (4) providing opportunities for Cub advancement.

Emergency Weather Plan

In case of severe inclement weather conditions occurring during the camping period, the campout will be reduced in duration (i.e. Saturday only) or cancelled in its entirety.
If severe weather is forecast for the camping weekend, a cancellation decision will be made by Pack leadership on Thursday, Noember 4, 2010 by 7:00 PM.

INSTRUCTIONS

The primary goal of the camp is to assure that all Scouts and their families have fun.  Secondary goals include; developing and reinforcing rank appropriate camping and outdoor skills, and working on Scout advancement.

Den Tasks (General)

1)       Ensure each individual attending camp has completed and turned in a physical for this event (Pack committee should also have a copy).  Class I or Class III (for those over 40 years old) physical forms are on the Pack website located at link: www.pack38.net.

2)       Set up camp in designated Den camping areas.

3)       Plan, layout and operate assigned stations (provide sign-in sheet for Scouts).

4)       Plan and execute Den-level activities for Saturday morning, afternoon, and evening as per schedule.

5)       Plan and execute Den-level meals; Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner meals.

6)       Participate in Pack-wide activities as per the schedule.

7)       Plan and execute assigned activities for Pack meeting.

8)       Plan and execute Den-developed campfire songs, skits, stories, or jokes.

9)       Families camping Friday night are requested to bring board games to play in the pavilion.

10)   Ensure all requirements and sports/academic activities get documented.

Logistics

Food  Individual families must bring food for Friday dinner, evening snack, and Saturday breakfast.  Dens will prepare and eat together for Saturday lunch and dinner meals.  Bananas and chocolate, and fixin’s for S’mores after campfire on Saturday evening are provided by Pack 38.  Sunday breakfast is also provided by the Pack. There is a $1.00 charge for each non-scout attending the weekend

Clothing  Individual families must dress appropriately for camp.  Watch weather prior to departing for campsite!  Class A uniforms are required for the Sunday service.

Equipment   Individual families must bring their own tent, bedding and stoves.  Refer to packing list for other required and recommended items.  Contact camping chair for requesting equipment from District Quartermaster.

Medical  Report any injuries to Pack Leadership.  First aid and medical evacuation as coordinated by Pack Leadership.  In case of serious injury (life, limb, eyesight) patient will be stabilized on sight until paramedics arrive.  Less serious injuries may be treated on site or parent may take youth to local hospital. 

Base/Communications  Pack 38 will establish a Pack Camp HQ.  There will be a sign and a chem-light at the sign-in/sign out point.
