What’s It All About? Cub Scouts is a program for boys from First Grade through Fifth Grade and their families. Together they join a Cub Scout Pack. The Aims of Scouting are: Character Development, Citizenship Training, Mental and Physical Fitness. Cub Scouting is Fun for the whole family. Boys can join Cub Scouts at any time during the year. Pack 38 will be available for you to register your son. To obtain a registration form or to ask questions about our program you can contact our Committee Chair, Janet Daniels, our Cubmaster, Richard Archer, or our Pack Trainer, Wade May. Den and Pack meetings are held from September to June. Pack Activities and Events are held every month of the year. Remember to register soon , we don’t want your son to miss any activities.
What will my son do in Cub Scouts? Each boy will have the opportunity to participate in fun and rewarding scouting events like: Parades & Ceremonies, Camping, Pinewood Derby, Sporting Events, Arts &Crafts and a whole lot more. We encourage as much parental participation as possible - all of the people within Pack 38 are parents of Cub scouts. If you've got an idea to share, please tell us and help our Pack grow! Check out our Activities page to view planned Pack events for this year. What are Dens and when do they meet ? The Pack is subdivided into Dens. Each boy is a member of a Den consisting of 5-8 boys of the same age. Dens meet weekly or biweekly at a time and place that works best for the families in each Den. Members of a Den work together to achieve their goals.
What are Pack meetings and when do we attend ? Pack meetings include everyone in the Pack and are times for recognition of accomplishments as well as fun-and-games. Skits, songs and information about upcoming Pack Events are shared. They are held once a month on the following dates and locations at 6:30 pm:
What about my son’s Cub Scout uniform? A Cub Scout’s uniform is an important part of his participation in scouting. He will feel like part of the Pack when he wears it, and will be very proud of it. His uniform is his Class-A uniform. Cub Scout uniforms are high-quality garments made to stand up to rough activities. You can purchase a uniform at the Scout Shop at 11721 Jefferson Ave (595-3356), via catalog order or online. Pack 38 conducts periodic uniform inspections at Pack meetings to ensure each boy wears his uniform properly. Please discuss the purchase (item prices) of your scouts uniform with his den leader prior to buying. Our Pack also has T-shirts which constitute our Class-B uniform. Pack T-shirts are worn to any summertime activity as well as many outdoor activities throughout the year. T-shirts cost $7.00 and are available at many of our Pack Meetings.
How much does Cub Scouting cost? A one-time $15 registration fee (prorated to the month you join) is due to the Colonial Virginia Council when you register your son for scouting. At this time you may also choose to subscribe for $12.00 (also prorated) to Boys Life Magazine for your child. Additionally, Pack 38 charges each boy Annual Dues. These dues help pay for materials, activities and badges. Payment of Annual dues are required by the November Pack meeting.
What is expected of me? As the parent of a Cub Scout, you will be expected to volunteer your time to participate in Den and Pack activities with your son. It takes many volunteers to make our Pack successful. Please consider how you can best serve the pack, whether in Den Leadership, Pack Leadership or Committee planning events. But don’t worry! We will make sure you get the necessary training and assistance you need to be a great Cub Scout volunteer. |
